Speaker Bios
Ms. Allen has spent 9 years in Inventory Control and 13 years in Information Systems in a variety of industries. The possibility of applying manufacturing & inventory control techniques to increase the quality of products in IT has intrigued her for several years. She is always looking for simple, cost effective, tested methods for providing the best possible products for all her customers. She recently published a book with Curlingstone called Data Modeling for Everyone.
Berenice Bojorquez, Reuters Data Americas:
Ms. Bojorquez is a Supervisor for the Quality Group and has been engaged in several major data quality projects where she has provided her process re-engineering and assessment skills. She has been closely involved in the development and implementation of an Oracle Database for real-time quality checking as well as been responsible for the coordination of a Quality Awareness Training program. Ms. Bojorquez has also participated and provided guidance on the different transition scenarios involving Reuters Data to measure the performance and recommend ways of improving the quality of data.
R. Jeffrey Canter, Innovative Systems, Inc.:
As Executive Vice President of Operations at Innovative Systems, Inc., Mr. Canter oversees research and development, client service, product maintenance and support. Over the course of his 13-year career with Innovative, he has applied his business and technical expertise to the successful development of customer information projects for clients in the financial services, hospitality and telecommunications industries. He is a regular speaker on topics related to managing and integrating customer data, and has authored articles on these topics that have appeared in publications such as DB2, The Journal of Data Warehousing, DM Review, CRM Magazine and others.
Mr. Carlson has twenty-five years experience in improving processes. The last 4.5 years have been focused on data and information processes in support of supply chain optimization, CRM, ERP, PDM and enterprise data warehouses. He has spoken internationally on data processes, data metrics and supply chain data improvement..
Christine Craven, Abbey National Bank
Ms. Craven is Head of Retail Information including Information Strategy and Information Quality business functions. She joined the IT department in 1989 and has worked in a variety of roles from high speed imaging systems to mainframe product transaction processing systems. In 1998, she was selected to assist in the set up of a program management function in the Retailing Division where she led a number of programs including Product Development and Information Management.
Stan Dobbs, Naval Inventory Control Point
Lieutenant Commander Dobbs currently serves as the Director, Data Integrity Management Center (DIMC), and Program Manager, Information Quality Support (IQS) Engineering for the Naval Inventory Control Points (NAVICP) located in Philadelphia and Mechanicsburg, PA. He is the Navy's senior logistics consultant on Information Quality for executive decision-making and has participated in various conferences on Information Quality and data management and with other government related entities on information quality.
Larry P. English, INFORMATION IMPACT International, Inc.
Mr. English is an internationally recognized authority in information and knowledge management and information quality improvement. He has provided consulting and education in more than 28 countries on five continents. He was featured as one of the "21 Voices for the 21st Century" in the January, 2000 issue of Quality Progress. DAMA awarded him the 1998 "Individual Achievement Award" for his contributions to the field of information resource management. Mr. English's methodology for information quality improvement-Total Information Quality Management (TIQM®)-has been implemented in several organizations worldwide. He writes the "Plain English on Information Quality" column in the DM Review. Mr. English's widely acclaimed book Improving Data Warehouse and Business Information Quality, is also available in Japanese.
Martin Eppler, MCM Institute, University of St. Gallen
Dr. Eppler is Vice Director of the Institute for Media and Communications Management at the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland, where he teaches in the undergraduate and MBA programs and conducts IQ-research & corporate projects. He is also professor of information quality at the University of Lugano.
David Evans, BT Computing Partners
Mr. Evans has worked for BT in the UK for 16 years. He currently leads a consultancy team specializing in information architecture, metadata, data quality and ETL, providing solutions for internal and external clients. He led on the formulation of, and now manages, an Information Management tools portfolio for BT's Wholesale business and has delivered a number of collaborate working solutions. He has previous program management experience, delivering significant components of BT's marketing data warehouse and operator services systems, all delivering major data quality and management benefits.
David Green, Merkle Direct Marketing
David is currently the Sr. Director, Application Development at Merkle Direct Marketing Inc. responsible for the data warehouse solutions for all the commercial customers. Previously, David was the VP of Development at The Barry Group providing CRM solutions. Prior to that David managed GIS and demographic solutions. David has 18 years of experience in development and quality. He has a BS in Computer Information Systems and an MBA.
Edward Hunt, BT Computing Partners
Mr. Hunt is a data quality tools consultant within BT's Information and Knowledge Management division. He has been engaged in several major data quality projects in the past three years and prior to this, led developments in BT's next generation marketing systems. His current projects include network asset improvement initiatives both within and outside BT, data quality tool evaluation, and acting as a primary consultant to BT's Information Management Forum.
Rita Kovac, Concept Shopping, Inc.
Ms. Kovac joined Concept Shopping, Inc. shortly after it's founding and is responsible for product operations, quality assurance, training, and support functions. Prior to joining CSI, she worked for 16 years at Information Resources where she served as Senior Vice President, Quality and Performance Measurement responsible for corporate data quality and managed the Performance Measurement Group. Prior to IRI, Ms. Kovac worked with Technomic Consultants and the Quaker Oats Company as a marketing research manager. She has a Masters in Industrial Administration from Carnegie-Mellon University and a Bachelors degree in Economics from Boston College.
David Loshin, Knowledge Integrity, Inc.
Mr. Loshin is president of Knowledge Integrity, Inc., an innovator of data quality and business rule applications, and is the author of Enterprise Knowledge Management: The Data Quality Approach (Morgan Kaufman, 2001), and Business Intelligence - The Savvy Manager's Guide (Morgan Kaufmann 2003). He has 20 years of software and database experience, has developed a graduate-level course on Data Quality for New York University, and is a columnist and editorial advisor for DM Review magazine and datawarehouse.com.
Mr. Marguglio has participated in the latest developments in human error prevention. He has 45 years of professional experience. He is a former executive of a large, high tech company, having had responsibility for quality, environmental and management systems functions; an ASQ Fellow; an ASQ-certified Quality Manager, Quality Engineer, Reliability Engineer, and Quality Auditor; a noted author and seminar presenter; and an award winner.
Danette McGilvray, Agilent Technologies
As the enterprise information quality program manager, Ms. McGilvray is implementing a program for managing information quality on an enterprise-wide basis and is currently working on a large-scale data migration project at Agilent. She consults with and leads project teams and speaks frequently at industry conferences. She was featured in a PC Week article about data quality and some of her program's best practices are highlighted in Larry English's book Improving Data Warehouse and Business Information Quality. Her experience includes information resource management, direct marketing, and electronic data interchange.
Lori Orr, Naval Inventory Control Point
Lori Orr currently serves as Deputy Director, Data Integrity Management Center (DIMC) for the Naval Inventory Control Points (NAVICP) located in Philadelphia and Mechanicsburg, PA. Ms. Orr has worked in the Information Quality field since 1982 and is also the NAVICP policy expert on Data Base, Technical and Cataloging issues. Ms. Orr has participated in various conferences on Information Quality and data management and with other government related entities on information quality.
Andres Perez, IRM Consulting Ltd. Co.
Mr. Perez is a Senior Information Management consultant experienced in Data Architecture and Data Management. Using TIQM® principles, he helps organizations with their data architecture and management strategies including management processes, technical architectural direction, implementation, roll out, and migration as well as a Change Management plans. He possesses a BS in Mechanical Engineering and Business Administration from the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (Monterrey, México), 1978. Andres is a well known speaker at DAMA International Conferences and DAMA Chapter meetings, Data Quality, ZIFA and IAA User Conferences.
Mr. Pettit has been involved with information systems development and implementations at Intel for more than twenty-three years. He developed one of two shop floor control systems for Intel; created Intel's current enterprise data warehouse initiative, started Intel's Data Quality initiative and is currently the Data Quality Process Manager
Tom Redman, Navesink Consulting Group
Dr. Redman is president of Navesink Consulting Group, based in Little Silver, New Jersey. Mr. Redman started Navesink in 1996 to help organizations improve their data and information, thereby improving decision-making, increasing customer satisfaction and lowering cost. Among the first to recognize the need for high-quality data in the Information Age, he established the AT&T Bell Laboratories Data Quality Lab in 1987 and led it until 1995. There he created the Applied Research Program that produced many of today's methods for improving data quality. Dr. Redman is the author of three books, Data Quality: The Field Guide, Data Quality for the Information Age, and Data Quality: Management and Technology.
Lorena Ruggiero, Reuters Data Americas
Ms. Ruggiero is currently a Manager for the Quality and Technical support group. She has been in the financial information business for 6.5 years and has held a management position within Reuters Data for 3.5 years of which 1.5 years have been directly with Quality. Most recently, she has taken on the additional responsibility of managing the Technical Support group within Reuters that is responsible for providing technical solutions to enhance efficiency for daily or project-related functions.
Michael Scofield, Loma Linda University
Mr. Scofield is a popular speaker and author and consultant on data architecture, data warehousing, and data quality. He holds a faculty position of Asst. Professor, Health Information Management at Loma Linda University. Previously, he was Vice President and Manager of Information Quality for a large bank in California. His articles on data architecture and data quality techniques have been published in Information Week, IBI System Journal, Data Management Review, and the Database Newsletter.
Ron Shelby, eFusionSolutions, LLCs
Mr. Shelby is an internationally recognized authority on data management, warehousing, and business intelligence. He provides consulting and education in information and information systems planning, information management, information quality improvement, data warehousing, business intelligence, and e-Business collaboration. Ron holds a Masters Degree from Indiana University and a Bachelors Degree from Wabash College. He also attended the Graduate School of Business at the University of Toronto. He was honored by Computer World as one of the industry's Premier 100 IT leaders last year and honored in Who's Who in America in 1998 and 2002.
Ian Sinclair, UK Ministry of Defence
Mr. Sinclair is the leading authority on data quality within the UK Ministry of Defence. Originally part of a small team focused on cleaning data for logistic systems but now, due to the remarkable success of the project, working on many MoD wide programs. He is responsible for driving initiatives to maintain data quality and is actively changing the MoD culture to achieve this. Mr. Sinclair is a quality management professional having worked in UK defense logistics for 13 years.
Mr. Sloan has been active in planning, implementing, and operating large information-intensive systems for over thirty-five years in government, the military, and the private sector; in management roles, project leadership roles, and as a vendor. For the last 16 years he has focused on improving information quality in large multi-national financial institutions. In the fall of 2002 he founded a new company, Synergeist, based in Basel, Switzerland, focused on improving information quality for companies in the Life Sciences industry sector.
Tom Taormina, Productivity Resources, LLC
Mr. Taormina, a frequent keynote speaker for groups that want to grow their skills from quality conformance to business excellence, is an internationally recognized expert in quality management systems and ISO 9000. He has written seven books including, Implementing ISO 9001:2000, Virtual Leadership and The ISO 9000 Imperative, Internal Auditing to ISO 9000, and Assessing ISO 9000 for your Business, which have been translated into Spanish and Portuguese. He is managing editor of three anthologies entitled The Essence of Quality Management. Tom is a Certified Quality Manager through The American Society for Quality. He chairs the Quality Management Systems Committee, of ASQ's Quality Management Division. His career includes 14 years as a member of the Project Apollo team at the Johnson Space Center, including 10 years as a Quality Control Engineer with Ford Aerospace.
Mr. Walenta has held a variety of professional and management positions with IBM in Germany, the UK and the USA. His professional experience includes developing and managing supply chain systems, management of business alliances, project management, data warehousing and information management. He currently is responsible for the Information Excellence Program for IBM's Order Status program and leads the Information Management strategy for IBM's Integrated Supply Chain. He has an MBA in Business Management, and is a certified IBM Executive Project Manager.
Most recently, Mr. Williams formed and led the information quality office at a telecommunications provider, mandated with the repair or containment of data integrity issues. His first experience with modern quality paradigms in the workforce was as a departmental ISO rep. Later, his pioneering the off-line programming of plant equipment at a large contract electronics manufacturer led to managing the quality of incoming customer data, internal component and equipment specifications, and effectively identifying all materials used by the assembly process. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Systems Engineering and a Masters Degree in Control Theory.
C. Lwanga Yonke, Aera Energy LLC
As Manager of Data Architecture and Information Quality, Mr. Yonke is actively involved in the implementation of an Enterprise Architecture Plan and of an enterprise-wide data quality process and currently specializes in all aspects of information quality. In previous assignments, he led multiple petroleum engineering development and operations projects. Mr. Yonke earned an MBA Beta Gamma Sigma from California State University, and holds a BS in petroleum engineering from the University of California at Berkeley. An ASQ Certified Quality Engineer, he has conducted numerous workshops and seminars on TQM strategies, and has authored and presented several technical and IRM papers.
